Eyelid Aesthetics

Aging begins on the face with the sagging of forehead and eyebrows after one’s thirties. It causes the upper eyelids to sag. Muscles on the upper eyelids weaken and the eyelids sag by age. Lower eyelids begin sagging due to the gravity and adipose tissue on the cheeks. Therefore, the lower eyelids weaken and crowfoot lines become visible. Eyelids aesthetic operations are carried out to tighten the supraorbital by removing excessive fats, muscles and skin tissues surgically. Eyelid aesthetics is a surgical operation and with this surgical operation; eversions, bagginess, under eye bags, and supraorbital creases are restored in order to give one a youthful appearance.

What is to be done before blepharoplasty?

Before the operation, an ophthalmological examination should be done in order to plan the surgery. Your doctor will give you the necessary information about the surgical technique, drug utilization and the impacts of smoking and consuming alcohol on the surgery.

How long does blepharoplasty take?
Excessive adipose tissue and excessive muscles removed from sub surface skin during eyelid surgery. This operation takes 20 or 30 minutes for each eyelid.

What should be done avoid after blepharoplasty?
After the surgery, eye patches are banded on your eyelids. Those patches do not obstruct your vision. Cold compress is applied in order to prevent the formation of edema on supraorbital area. Bruises and swelling may occur on this area despite all the precautions and care. However, they will fade away starting from the third day after the operation. A few hours after the operation, mild bleeding and leakage may be observed on the patches banded on your eyelids. Raising your head by putting another pillow under your neck helps the edema to be reduced. The edema starts fading away on third day of the operation and patches and stitches will be removed within seven or ten days. When the patches are removed, bruises and swelling may be observed. These bruises and swelling can be covered by makeup. The patient should avoid heavy physical activities, tanning booth, sauna or sunbathing for 6 weeks after the surgery.

Which anesthetic method is used for blepharoplasty?
While upper eyelid operations are administered under local anesthesia, lower eyelid operation is mostly administered under general anesthesia.

Will there be any permanent scar after eyelift surgery?
A thin pink line can be observed on the curve of the upper eyelid and under the lashes of the lower eyelid in the first weeks after the surgery. In the long run, these lines will be invisible.
